This dress is derived from the re-issued vintage Butterick 4790: The Walkabout dress.
Legend has it that you can start this dress after breakfast and walkabout to lunch in the completed dress.
I’ve had this pattern in my stash for years always searching for the perfect fabric. This dress was made for a co-worker’s Mad Men themed Christmas Party! The patterned fabric is from Joann’s 2012 Taffeta Christmas Skirt collection and gray “party taffeta”.
As for the legend, it is true! I was able to complete all pattern/fabric cutting and major sewing in about 2.5 hours. It only has 3 pattern pieces, no lining, no closures (only button loops) and all edges are covered in pre-made bias tape. However, several of my personal additions such as a lined bodice, higher side pieces, extra darts, additional hemming and front snaps increased my creation time.

Wow! You did a great job. Beautiful fabric selection too. It must look fantastic on you. I have seen several versions of this dress on patternreview.com but have to say you take the prize.
I think this is a lovely dress. I am kind of shy to wear these styles but have always thought they are so feminine. You have given me the courage to sew this (without petticoat) and in a more heavier but fluid fabric for a contemporary look.
